As a matter of TMI

Every book you've checked out from the public library or school library or bought at a bookstore - all of them - are compiled in a list by the government, attached to your "file" and reviewed by someone who is *looking* for a reason to classify you as a risk.

Don't worry, they are looking for "dangerous" stuff, the "moral" matters (or immoral for that matter) are only brought to bear when they want something from you.

They know what you read, and web search, and buy ... and you pay them with your taxes for doing it to you

Sleep well

I made no unfounded assumptions in my post, I merely arrived at a different (i.e., non-positive) conclusion as to the merits of self torture through sleep deprivation.

As a younger person (college and post-college) I "utilized" a wide variety of sleeping (and non-sleeping) habits/schedules/phases. Here's the important part of that last sentence: "as a younger person". When we're younger, we can absorb a lot more punishment and still remain bright-eyed-and-bushy-tailed than we can after a few extra decades have been applied. Just like bones broken when you're 11 take a lot less time to heal than bones broken when you're 45.

The bitch of it is, and we seldom learn this until its too late, that the bone we broke at 11, which healed so quickly, so often becomes the source of arthritis later on in life. In other words: the damage you do when you're young *will* haunt you when you're no longer young.

To be even plainer: If you think that the sleep habits you were able to maintain during the prime of your youth can be successfully re-asserted and have the same results...then I hope you're still young enough to shake it off.

On the other hand, if you're willing to accept the consequences of your decisions, good or bad, then you're a free man.

Be free. And sleep tight!

Interesting rant Flippant Philosopher!

Although you're college educated self is convinced that everyone is a liar merely bent on impressing others with sleep deprivation statistics, I purpose that you a). probably haven't tried this particular sleeping pattern and b). failed miserably at any pattern aside from monophasic which you did attempt. It's in my own opinion that sleeping 8 hours a day is a failure in and of itself but I digress.

In order to actually speak on a subject, it helps to know something about it... which might contradict your name... but nonetheless, here are a couple links with detailed articles on the subject:
